-ULTRALIGHT ACTIVE TRAVEL-
A TENT & THE MOUNTAINS.
Hiking, hitchhiking or cycling to your destination will quickly develop into the best adventure.
Whilst you will need a few essential items depending on the activity,
this should only be gear that will see vigorous daily use.
Leaving without a clue.
When I left for my first hiking trip I was very naive. Somehow; whilst I believed I had considerably factored weight into much of the outdoor gear that I’d purchased, in truth I had no real perception of weight at all. I had also managed to sneak into my pack a hilarious (in hindsight) number of utterly pointless items. As a result, much of the four month excursion was centred around de-bulking, sending four very weighty packages back across the North Sea. My friend and I had stuffed our packs during the early hours of the morning, only a few hours before leaving for the airport. We had not planned, nor prepared, just purchased and were therefore penalised throughout the rest of the trip.
When approaching either overseas travel or an outdoor adventure for the first time, it is common to feel a necessity to take as many comforts as can fit inside a large backpack. Bringing unnecessary items we feel we might use at some point, we are slow and increasingly uncomfortable
with packs that are far too heavy.
Pack less.
