You can`t go lighter.
If you need to peg down a tent or tarp into very hard ground these might be all you need.
As they are so thin there`s no need for pointed tips, the titanium is squared off, nothing sharp here.
They are so tiny they have the potential to get completely lost in your pack if you don`t wrap them together, of course this is nothing but a positive. They have yellow coded shepherd hooks so that you don`t loose them on the ground when packing up ..but you will have to be extra careful.
Once again, they are tiny. I wouldn`t recommend these pegs for windy conditions, in fact anything but still conditions could pull these extremely short pegs out from the ground. I found the length of the pin pegs too small for my needs as I require one set of pegs that will cover a diverse range of ground types.
The 1g Gram-Counter Gear pegs are meant for those occasions where you know the setting and won`t have the fear of them springing up from soft ground in the night. They are intended as a weight saver for the additional supports and not to secure key structural points. Think extra guy-lines that you may need to pull out for more internal room.
If the above matches your needs then these high quality pegs by Gram-Counter Gear will have you laughing at the weight saved by leaving at home your old heavier pegs.

GSI Outdoor Cathole Trowel:
Listed wight: [88g]
Actual weight: [88g]
Material: re-purposed Lexan (polycarbonate)
Listed dimensions: 261.62 x 66.04 x 25.4mm
Lowest Price Found: £5
Purchased: (2012) LD Mountain Centre
Sold: (2015) £5
Used for four months camping in Norway.
Extremely durable plastic trowel.
Outdoor toilet routine requires a little thought before going on your first hiking trip.
You will need to carry toilet paper ..or wet wipes if you want extra luxury and functionality at the cost of greater weight, bulk and price. You will also need a method for relaxing the bowels when the time comes out in the nature. Overtime your technique will probably evolve as you replace tools with so called 'skills'.
Initially I carried heavy wet wipes and this trowel. I believed cleaning hands and cook pots with the wipes to be of added benefit. Now I prefer not to carry such bulky and weight contributing items. Instead, toilet paper (and soap if you wish) can be taken from public restrooms. With this approach, you can simply carry enough for the amount of days away from you're next re-supply opportunity.
There are endless methods that people use for digging a hole in the ground which personal preference will dictate. A trowel allows for peace of mind when first starting out.
Measurements in cm and inches are easily visible on the front and leave-no-trace guidelines moulded into back of trowel should you need them.
The GSI Cathole Trowel penetrates stone and root dense soil with its serrated edges that whilst jagged are not too sharp to pack alongside delicate items. The long handle gives a sturdy grip but invades pack space. Many people cut it down in addition to further modifications such as drilling holes and
reducing the size of the blade.
If you don't eat with a spork and want to be creative, you could find an extra use for it as an eating or cooking implement. Further possible application could also see it used as a tent stake in extremely soft ground. It could also double its value as a garden hand-tool.
Negatives: Large pack size and unnecessary weight for its single use
compared to alternative work-arounds.
A good, simple product but you don't really need it for hiking.

Silva Field Compass:
Weight: [27g]
Material: Plastic
Base Plate Scale: mm, 1:50,000 / 1:25,000
Lowest Price Found: £11
Purchased: (2012) Outdoor Trail
The Silva Field compass is a basic essentials compass.
It lacks advanced features found in the more premium range of Silva compasses, such features that allow for more thorough readings which aren`t always necessary.
You may therefor manage to get away with a cheaper, smaller and lighter compass.
Sometimes, less features make way for a smoother, more optimised experience. One that is easy and enjoyable rather than daunting and potentially overwhelming.
Succeeding in what it aims to do and does so with an appealing design and quality build.
Reliable and affordable, the Field compass is a good go to, should you need to depend on your own navigational skills in the remote parts of the world.

Sea To Summit Clothes Line:
Weight: [25g]
Lowest Price Found: £4
Purchased: (2012) Amazon
Sold: (2015) £5
The Sea To Summit Clothes Line is a compact convenience.
If you`re someone that likes to carry extras and puts value in always being prepared, this is considerably the best travel line you can get. Weighing an unnoticeable 25 grams and taking up less space than a table tennis ball, you won`t realise it's in your pack.
Set Up:
The nylon cord packs into an attached storage pouch which doubles as a hook for fixing one end of the line. At the other far end of the line, there's a second small hook, minus the storage pouch. Clothes are secured either traditionally by draping them over the top or quite inventively by sliding two of the many attached beads along the line which pinches the clothing securely together. The end hooks and securing beads perform well in winds making for an all round fantastic device. The item is easy to clean should it need one, mine saw the luxury of a washing machine spin after it`s longest excursion.
This simple system keeps things efficient and tangle free while making pegs obsolete.
